While public perception often focuses on crime-fighting, officers spend considerable time dealing with routine neighborhood issues and managing paperwork across disconnected software systems. According to the 2024 Arizona Law Enforcement Retention Survey, officers spend at least a quarter of their working hours on administrative tasks, exceeding time spent on search and rescue, event security, or community outreach. Despite an abundance of modern data from body-worn camera transcripts, dispatch systems, and records management software, compiling compliant police reports remains a manual, time-consuming process. Polega notes that hours spent navigating these administrative systems directly reduce the time officers can spend engaging with their communities.
