Technology company Axon, widely recognised for its Taser devices and body cameras, has introduced an artificial intelligence tool called Draft One that generates police reports directly from body camera audio. The software is currently being piloted by 75 officers across several American police departments, including Fort Collins, Lafayette, and East Palo Alto, where its use is initially restricted to minor incidents. Early feedback shows the tool reduces report-writing time by over 60 per cent, saving individual officers approximately 45 hours each month. Despite these efficiency gains, legal experts have raised concerns regarding the technology's accuracy, transparency, potential bias, and impact on the admissibility of court evidence.
