Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum and Mexico state Governor Delfina Gómez have unveiled two artificial intelligence-powered police robots, named CeCi and K7, to support law enforcement operations in Mexico state. The introduction of the upright humanoid robot CeCi and the dog-like robot K7 forms part of the federal government's National Public Security Strategy implemented in October 2024. CeCi, named after the country's C5 surveillance apparatus, is designed to assist with video surveillance, facial recognition, licence plate reading, tactical drones, and specialised support for violence against women. Sheinbaum stated that the robotic assistants will aid security efforts in some of the country's most populous municipalities, including Ecatepec and Ciudad Nezahualcóyotl. The overarching security strategy focuses on addressing root causes of crime, consolidating the National Guard, strengthening intelligence and investigations, and fostering internal cooperation between security agencies.
