Bagalkot Police in Karnataka have penalised traffic violators over Rs 10.22 crore between June 2025 and July 2026 using an Artificial Intelligence-powered Intelligent Traffic Management System. The force registered more than 2.11 lakh cases using 22 Automatic Number Plate Recognition cameras deployed across key city junctions, although only around Rs 1.72 crore of the total fines has been recovered so far. Operating automatically without human intervention, the AI software detects offences such as helmetless riding, triple riding, seat belt non-compliance, and signal jumping, with footage monitored constantly from a control room at the Superintendent of Police's office. Authorities stated that the automated digital surveillance has improved motorist discipline and contributed to a nearly 20 per cent reduction in road accidents and crime over the past year.
