Brazilian start-up Gabriel, co-founded by Erick Coser in 2020, operates a network of street-facing cameras that residents pay to install outside their homes while police receive the footage free of charge. The company has deployed 20,000 cameras featuring distinctive green LED rings across São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, and Belo Horizonte. Using artificial intelligence, the technology processes around four million licence plates daily—focusing on vehicles rather than facial recognition—to help police piece together crime scenes from multiple angles. In March 2024, the network was used to track a gunman's getaway after Coser himself was robbed at gunpoint outside an apartment building in São Paulo.
