NCA Issues Warning to Parents As Shared Child Photos Exploited by AI Tools

Reported by Infosecurity Magazine

The National Crime Agency has launched a campaign to warn parents that shared photos of their children are being manipulated into sexual abuse material using artificial intelligence. It comes as the Internet Watch Foundation recorded 3,440 AI-generated child abuse videos in 2025, up from just 13 in 2024. Total AI-generated abuse images and videos reached 8,029 over the same period, representing a 14 per cent annual increase. Running across Facebook, Instagram and YouTube, the campaign provides guidance on safe sharing and discussing deepfake nudes with young people. The Internet Watch Foundation warned that threat actors are actively targeting shared content, while oversharing also risks personal data being used by fraudsters.
