Haveri Police in Karnataka have implemented an Integrated Traffic Management System using Artificial Intelligence and Automatic Number Plate Recognition technology to detect traffic offences automatically. The system captures vehicle registration details at key junctions and identifies violations including riding without a helmet, triple riding on two-wheelers, driving without a seat belt, and using mobile phones whilst driving. Captured footage is sent to the command and control centre at the Superintendent of Police's office, where electronic fine notices are generated automatically and posted to the vehicle owners' registered addresses. Funded under a Rs 52.63 lakh budget for 2025-26, the round-the-clock monitoring system initially utilises six AI-based cameras and ten surveillance cameras following a one-week public awareness drive.
