A Florida resident, Robert Dillon — whose first name has also been reported as Richard — has filed a lawsuit against police following an alleged wrongful arrest caused by an artificial intelligence facial recognition error. In 2023, Dillon was arrested for allegedly attempting to lure a child away from a McDonald's restaurant in Jacksonville Beach, Florida, a location hundreds of miles from his home. Having since been cleared of the allegations, he is serving as a plaintiff in a new American Civil Liberties Union lawsuit against law enforcement. Dillon is seeking monetary damages alongside the immediate implementation of policy changes to prevent other people from experiencing similar trauma.
