According to police sources, the surveillance aims to identify wanted criminals, absconders, historysheeters, and listed bad characters, rather than target ordinary protesters. The high-resolution cameras capture facial images from a distance and cross-reference them in real time against the Delhi Police database. When a match is detected, the system alerts the relevant police unit so that legal action can be initiated. Officers described the deployment as both a preventive and investigative measure to deter anti-social elements from disturbing law and order.
