Technology company Axon is deploying the "Axon Lightpole", an artificial intelligence surveillance system that installs licence plate-reading cameras into existing streetlight infrastructure. Created through a partnership with law enforcement technology firm Ubicquia, the system uses everyday streetlights to monitor Americans in the name of public safety. Axon's product competes with similar technology manufactured by Flock. Flock has recently faced criticism and citizen backlash over its own streetlight surveillance units.
