Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner Mosleh Uddin Ahmed has announced the expansion of artificial intelligence-powered traffic surveillance cameras to 19 major intersections across the capital. Four new AI cameras were integrated into the existing 15-intersection network on 30 June, through which approximately 1,500 traffic cases have been filed so far. The latest deployment includes Lake Road to curb speeding and unsafe lane changes along a route characterised by heavy pedestrian movement and frequent VVIP travel. Under the automated enforcement system, vehicle owners identified by the cameras receive prosecution notices by SMS and post, as well as via the traffic division's website. Fines are reflected in the system after payment is made to the traffic office, with work underway to bring further junctions under AI surveillance.
